Prof. Dr. hab. Jerzy Kochanowski

Graduate from the Institute of History, Warsaw University (MA 1984; PhD 1991, habilitation 2001, professorship 2012).  1988-2020 employee of the Historical Institute at the Warsaw University, since 2020 employee of the Institute of Art History at the Warsaw University. Between 2000 and 2005 researcher at the German Historical Institute in Warsaw, 2007 guest professor at the University of Mainz, 2011-2012 and 2018 senior fellow at the Imre-Kertész-Kolleg in Jena, 2024 fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

2003-2021 member of the editorial board of „Przegląd Historyczny“ (The Historical Review; 2013-2018 editor-in-chief); since 2015 member of the editorial board of the quarterly „Zeitschricht für Ostmitteleuropa-Forschung“ (Herder-Institut, Marburg, Germany). Since 2019 member of the presidium of the Joint German-Polish Textbook Commission.

His research interests include social and cultural history of Poland and Central and Eastern Europe in the 20th century, visual culture (caricature, photography), oral history, World War II, Polish-German relations, history of forced migration in the 20th century.
